An Amazing Cornish Road Trip

An Amazing Cornish Road Trip

that starts and ends at Tehidy Holiday Park. If you are new to our gorgeous part of Cornwall or just want an amazing road trip try this one! It is a full day out and BE WARNED it may contain an excessive amount of natural beauty and an end to the day in a 1380’s pub !

It is really simple, hop onto the A30 heading south – the A30 runs all the way to Lands End. When you get to the south coast take in the views of St Michaels Mount. After Penzance look for the signed left turn to Newlyn (this is a commercial fishing harbour) At the crossroads in Newlyn you go straight over – signed Mousehole ( a lovely fishing village, the narrow entrance to the harbour gives the village it’s name. Mousehole is also the setting of the famous childrens story and film – The Mousehole Cat). TIP – before Mousehole there are parking bays along the road side (free) and if you sneak in as far as you can get before parking it’s an easy flat walk along the path to the village.

After Mousehole return to the A30 and head on towards Lands End.

A few miles before Lands End look out for the Minack Theatre and Porthcurno signs – on the left. This road is narrow with passing places and can be very slow, but it is worth it. The beach is GORGEOUS and the Minack Theatre looks like a piece out of Ancient Greece carved out of the cliff face – to see a show here is amazing – the backdrop is the ocean.

After Porthcurno head back to the A30 then on towards Lands End.

Just before Lands End look for the turning on the right to Sennen Cove, another gorgeous fishing village on the equally gorgeous White Sands Bay. Park here and take the coastal footpath south to Lands End (approx 1 mile), this is lovely walk, a bit wibbly (highly technical term for bumpy) but the views are worth it!

After Lands End head back to the A30 and back towards Penzance for a little way and look out for the B3306 to St Ives. This road runs up the dramatic coastline through what looks like and actually is ancient landscape, the field systems here date back to the Bronze Age – just look at the walls. To your right is moorland and left the ocean. About five miles before St Ives you’ll see a sign to Zennor. Zennor is great on 3 counts 1 The Tinners Arms, a 1380’s pub thought to be the oldest pub in UK and possibly the world !!! 2 The church, it dates to the same period as the pub and in it there the Medieval mermaid carving relating to the folk tale of the Mermaid of Zennor. 3 The walk down the track, by the pub, to Zennor Head (approx 1 mile), this is a lovely spot to watch the sun set from. Continue up towards St Ives then take the right turn onto the B3311 and then second turn on the left to Lelant Downs, this then drops you onto a mini roundabout just off the A30 bypassing St Ives, turn right to the A30, second left on the roundabout and cruise on back to Tehidy Holiday Park.
